10 Dos and Don'ts in Heart Attack

10 Do’s and Don’ts in Heart Attack

Heart attack affects millions of people all over the world every year. Unfortunately due to various factors such as unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, etc. the occurrence of this heart disease is increasing daily. But the good news is that heart attack can be kept at bay by making an attempt to keep the heart healthy.

A few key steps for maintaining a healthy heart are given here. Follow these do’s and don’ts and keep away heart attack:

1.    Do Eat Healthy
One of the biggest risk factors is an unhealthy diet. Try avoiding fatty foods and food that is rich in cholesterol. Consume lots of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits, fibre, lean protein and plenty of water.

2.    Do Exercise Regularly
A heavier body puts more strain on the heart. Exercising regularly helps to lose weight and strengthens the heart muscles.  Exercising also helps in lowering blood pressure levels, cholesterol levels and helps in relieving stress.

3.    Do Take Aspiring Regularly
Aspirin is a natural blood thinner that is obtained from the bark of the white willow tree. As it thins the blood, it prevents the arteries from getting blocked and thus prevents heart attack. Ask your doctor before taking aspirin as it might not be safe for everyone.

4.    Do Reduce Intake of Salt
Reducing salt intake can reduce the risk of heart attack as salt contributes to rise in blood pressure level. Apart from this, it also boosts the effects of blood pressure lowering agents and reduces complications that are associated with diabetes, obesity, etc.

5.    Do Control Blood Pressure Level
People with high blood pressure are more prone to get a heart attack. This is because high blood pressure puts more force against the artery walls which damage the arteries. This leads to the narrowing of the arteries which ultimately leads to coronary artery disease.

6.    Do Reduce Cholesterol Level
Increased level of cholesterol in the blood leads to the accumulation of cholesterol on the artery walls. Due to this, the arteries become narrow and the blood does not flow properly to the heart muscle. This might culminate into a heart attack.

7.    Do Get a Good Sleep
According to a study, there is a plausible link between sleep duration and risk of heart attack. It is believed that people who sleep for less than seven and a half hours a night may be at a greater risk. So make sure than you get a good night’s sleep.

8.    Don’t Smoke
Smoking on a regular basis increases fatty deposits in the arteries and thus narrows and hardens the arteries. Try reducing number of cigarettes per day or if possible, quit smoking for good.

9.    Don’t Consume Alcohol
Consuming alcohol regularly makes you put on weight which in turn is harmful for the heart. Try to reduce the consumption of alcohol for a healthy heart.

10.    Don’t Take Stress
When under excess stress, the body tends to release chemicals that cause blood pressure and the heart rate to increase. It also begins a set of actions in the body that lead to plaque formation. It is thus advised to reduce stress by stress reduction techniques such as meditation, yoga, laughing, swimming, massage, etc.

Liver Cirrhosis – Ayurveda Panchakarma Management

According to ayurveda, cirrhosis is caused by highly damaged Vata. This is a disease that affects one of the most important organs of our body – the liver. The liver performs various vital functions such as production of bile, elimination of wastes from the body, production of urea, filtration of harmful substances from the blood, making of proteins, and so on. Symptoms of this disease include weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, abdominal pain, fluid retention in the abdomen and legs, etc.

Treatment of this disease through ayurveda might take time but it aims to destroy the root cause of the disease and increases the ability of the body to heal naturally. Once the cause of the disease is diagnosed, one can undergo a certain treatment or therapy or a combination of them. One such treatment is the Panchakarma treatment.

The basic aim of the Panchakarma treatment is to flush out the toxins from the body. This treatment not only improves physical health but also vitalises the mind. As the name suggests, Panchakarma means five types of therapeutic treatments that cleanses the body. The phases of the Panchakarma treatment are broadly classified as pre-purification, main purification and post purification. These phases are composed of various therapies such as oil massage, herbal massage, fermented liquid massage, medical enemas, nasal administration of oil, etc.

The pre-purification phase of the Panchakarma treatment aims to slacken the toxins from the body. It also opens up the circulation channels and prepares the body to release the toxins. The pre-purification method that is adopted for the treatment of liver cirrhosis is called ‘Snehapanam’. Apart from cleansing the body of its toxins, it also enhances memory. Snehapanam involves consumption of a concoction made from medicated ghee and sesame oil for a certain number of days.  Few other ingredients used for making the concoction include Aragwadha (Cassia Fistula), Bhringaraja ( Eclipta alba), Patola (Trichosanthes lobata)guggul (Commiphora Wightii), chopchini (Smilax China), ginger (Zingiber Officinale), neem (Azadirachta Indica), onion (Allium Cepa) and so on.

The intention of the main purification phase is to get rid of the toxins that were slackened during the pre-purification phase. The therapies for the main purification for cirrhosis are called ‘Nasyam’ and ‘Virechanam’. In the Nasyam therapy, herbal oil is poured drop by drop into the nostrils. Inhaling the oil opens up the head channels. The base ingredient of the herbal oil is sesame oil to which herbs such as bael (Aegle Marmelos), sida plants, etc. are mixed. Virechanam refers to the oral intake of herbal medicines. The toxins are then released through excreta. This therapy energises the entire body and improves appetite.

The Panchakarma treatment should be undertaken only by expert Ayurvedic practitioners. The treatment differs for each person according to the disease and the constitution of the body.

Liver Cirrhosis – Ayurveda Concept

Ayurveda is believed to have originated in the Indian subcontinent nearly 5000 years ago. It is a system of traditional medicine that is fast becoming popular all over the world. Ayurveda lays emphasis on healthy living. In order to keep illness at bay, ayurveda stresses on hygiene, yoga, exercise and herbal preparations. And in order to cure ailments, it emphasises the importance of diet, physiotherapy and ayurvedic medicines.

In ayurveda, the liver is referred to as ‘yakrut’ or ‘yakrita’. The derivation of the word comes from ‘yaha’ meaning one and ‘krut’ that literally means does. Thus the liver is considered to be an extremely important organ of the body that performs various vital functions. The basic functions of the liver include eliminating wastes from the body, producing urea, cholesterol and bile, filtering harmful substances from the blood, making proteins, maintaining an appropriate level of glucose in the body and so on.

The basic fundamentals of ayurveda are based on the principle that the human body is composed of four basics – dosha, dhatu, mala and agni. According to ayurveda, liver cirrhosis is known as ‘yakrut vishamyata’. In this disease, the liver cells decay as the kapha, meaning phlegm of the body, mixes with impure blood. This disease is categorised into three parts according to the increase in a particular dosha in the body. The three parts are:

•    Vataj, which is caused by excess vatta in the body.
•    Pittaj, which is caused by excess pitta in the body.
•    Kaphaj, which is caused by excess kapha in the body.

Ayurvedic solution to the treatment of liver cirrhosis has been found to have a high success rate. Many medicinal plants and a combination of them are administered to help cure this disease. Some very effective medications to cure liver cirrhosis are ‘bhringaraja’ (eclipta alba), arogyavardhini and ‘katuki’ (picrorhiza). While taking ayurvedic medicines, one should take special care regarding their diet.

The ancient system of ayurveda is believed to have begun nearly 5000 years ago in the Indian subcontinent. Over the years, it has developed extensively and has found many followers worldwide. While in Indian, there are many believers of the power of ayurveda, in the western world, it is considered as alternative medicine.

Ayurveda is known to have cured many diseases. One such disease that has high success rate in getting cured by ayurveda medicines is liver cirrhosis. Cirrhosis of the liver is a disease most often caused by excessive alcoholism and chronic hepatitis B, C or D. In this disease, the healthy tissues in the liver get replaced by scar tissues that impair the ability of the liver to perform its vital functions.

In ayurveda, liver cirrhosis is known to have caused by the aggravation of three doshas: pitta, vatta and kapha. In order to avoid liver cirrhosis, one should take good care of one’s health and be careful regarding diet. Alcohol and caffeine should be avoided. One should exercise regularly, drink green tea and try and reduce stress levels.

Liver Cirrhosis – Yoga Management

The liver is one of the most important organs of our body. It is an organ that has the extraordinary ability to regenerate itself. Chronic injury to the liver leads to the malfunction and deterioration of the organ. Healthy tissues of the liver get replaced by scar tissues and this restricts the blood flowing through the liver. This in turn impairs the ability of the liver to perform its perfunctory functions.

Yoga is considered to effectively help patients with liver cirrhosis. Yoga differs from other fitness exercises as it combines physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques and meditation in order to maintain a balance between physical, mental and emotional well being.

Yoga that helps the liver does not literally mean that the asanas exercise the liver, but rather mean that they stimulate and improve the functioning of the liver. Some poses provide a direct benefit by putting gentle pressure on the liver and stimulating it. While other poses help the body to recover from liver damage, improve circulation of blood and cleanse the system. It not only helps lower stress levels but also assists in enhancing the physical as well as psychological health. It helps feel better and aids the body to react more favourably to treatment.

The following asanas are recommended for treating liver cirrhosis:
Kapalbhati pranayama – This is a breathing exercise basically meant for complete fitness of the body. With devoted practice of this pranayama, cirrhosis might get permanently cured.

Matsya asana – This asana is also known as the fish pose. The posture falls under the category of backbends. It strengthens and stimulates the organs of the belly.

Sarvang asana – This is one of inverted postures in yoga that benefits the entire body. It promotes circulation of blood to the entire body especially towards the heart.

Hal asana – This is one of the basic postures in yoga. It stretches the spine and rejuvenates the entire body. Also known as the plough pose, this asana soothes the stomach, belly and liver.

Chakra asana – Also known as the wheel pose, this asana too comforts the liver and the stomach.

Marjari asana – This asana is also known as the cat posture. Inspired by the mannerisms of cats, this gives flexibility to the backbone.

Gomukh asana – This is also known as cow head pose. It massages the abdominal organs, increases blood circulation and activates the nervous system.

Garuda asana – Also known as the eagle pose, it aims towards balance and tranquillity of the body. It also strengthens ankles and calf muscles.

You should also do breathing exercises along with these asanas so that there is better supply of oxygen to the liver. Practising breathing exercises also aids in pumping clean blood which increases the metabolism of the body. Please ensure that you learn the various asanas under the guidance of an experienced instructor. This is because failure to do the asanas correctly may lead to injury. Also keep in mind that in addition to yoga, you need to follow a healthy lifestyle and maintain a strict diet.

Liv 52 is the world’s No.1 liver protection formula. With a history of over 50 years, this herbal preparation now sells in over 40 countries. That even allopathic practitioners recommend Liv 52 for treating various liver disorders, is a testimony to its efficacy.

The role of a nutritious dietary regimen for athletes, especially body builders and weight lifters, cannot be over-emphasized. Many athletes use performance enhancing drugs to keep themselves ahead in a fiercely competitive environment. The legality of their use aside, the fact remains that this is a widely prevalent practice.

Steroids used for performance enhancement can be injectables like Testosterone and Trembolone or orals like Anadrol and Dianabol. While injectable steroids pass through the liver once, orals do so twice thus increasing the stress on the liver. The effects of orals on different body organs are also more severe than of injectables.

Whatever be the type of steroid used, athletes should take care to preserve their valuable body organs from their adverse effects. The harshest steroids that can be used are the oral ones like Anadrol, Dianabol, Halotestin, Methyl Test, Cheque Drops as well as injectables like Winstrol and Trembolone. These are some of the most toxic to the liver when compared to other steroids like Anavar or Sustanon.

The users have to find a remedy to get those enzyme levels down and to cleanse the liver of all the toxins that have built up due to extended steroid use. Among the various products available to protect the liver, Liv 52 is undoubtedly the most popular. Introduced in 1955 and now sold all over the world, this herbal

preparation offers comprehensive liver care. Apart from being an effective protection against cirrhosis, hepatitis, fatty liver and elevated liver enzymes, it is also the best cure for these conditions in affected cases.

Insomnia – Ayurvedic treatment

To Buy Anaril Ayurvedics Special ayurvedic package for Insomnia Click Here!

According to ayurveda, the amount of sleep you need depends on your mind-body constitution or body type. People with Kapha constitution need the most sleep – about eight or nine hours in order to feel rested. Pittas are next, with a need of seven to eight hours. Vatas can manage with six to seven hours of sleep.
Your requirements of sleep also depends on what stage of life are you in. Babies can sleep as much as 15 or 16 hours out of every 24. Children frequently sleep 10 hours or more. At the other extreme, elderly people rarely enjoy a sound, unbroken sleep of more than four or five hours.
According to Ayurveda, there are two main causes for insomnia: Unbalanced Vata and the interruption in the routine of an individual. The signs of aggravated Vata include restlessness, anxiety and worry. Mental stress, increased body activity, fasting, staying up late all can create disturbance in the normal body system and thus bringing a total imbalance in Vata.
Other causes of insomnia
• Anxiety
• Depression
• A general feeling of ennui and boredom
• Frequent ingestion of stimulants, particularly illegal drugs and prescription medicines
• Eating heavy food before bed
Ayurvedic Herbal Remedies for Insomnia
There would seem to be quite a contradiction with the herbs required to treat insomnia. Because ironically though the idea is to “cool-off” the afflicted doshas, you do so by using hot spices!! This is because the heat generated warms the internal system back into a state where it can begin the process of cooling off!!
1) The most effective herb for this remedy is calamus root. It is to be taken in powder form added to warm water or milk three times a day.
2) Use sesame oil, brahmi oil, jasmine oil, cow’s ghee or jatamatnsi oil, and massage gently for a few minutes on the scalp and the soles of the feet before going to bed.
3) Depending on an individual’s body type, different kinds of oil are used at varying temperatures to relax the nervous system. These include Coconut oil (pitta type, used at room temperature), Sesame oil (vata type, applied warm), and Mustard oil (kapha type, applied warm).
4) A cup of chamomile tea at bedtime is truly beneficial for inducing sleep.
5) Early to bed and early to rise is what ayurveda believes in. One should sleep at around 10 pm and should try and get up by 4 am.
6) Meditation and yoga is another factor that can help cure the disease. These will help us to stay calm and away from anxiety and depression which are the major causes of insomnia.

Factors affecting Sleep

There are various factors that affect the sleep. The more active one is, the healthier a person is, the better they sleep.
 Food
The evidence for the direct effects of food on sleep tends to be fairly meager. On should try and have dinner as early as possible and should not sleep immediately after it. Dinner should be the lightest meal of all the meals taken during the day and should not be skipped.
Alcohol
With small doses of alcohol, it acts as a relaxant so one goes to sleep. Slightly higher doses means the brain is not going to awaken as readily so in a sense the sleep is a little bit deeper but it is actually its ability to response that has changed. The brain can’t react as quickly as we would want to. Associated with that is poorer breathing, snoring and disturbed sleep.
Caffeine
Caffeine’s an interesting compound in that people vary in how they react to it. An example is women who are pregnant may suddenly react very badly to having caffeine, and then after can drink it again. It probably impacts mainly on the wakefulness promoting system. It doesn’t actually prevent sleep by switching sleep off; it just makes us more alert.
Medicines
Most medicines have an impact on sleep, particularly if they’re psycho active. So those that are used in psychiatry, say for depression will have an impact on sleep. Medicines normally relax our reflexes so they make the person sleep.
Smoking
Smokers can have quite a hard time of sleeping. Time for which nicotine is actually active in the bloodstream is quite low. So as soon as they’ve stopped smoking the reaction of not having nicotine around that time can disturb sleep. Generally their circulatory systems are quite poor so their breathing is disturbed during sleep. The two add up together to not having a good night sleep.
Exercise
It’s a myth that people think that if they really Exercise hard prior to going to bed, they’re going to get a better night’s sleep. But in fact, the exercise itself at that point can both be a stress and can raise body temperature and can create a problem. But Exercising regularly leads to good health, and that experimentally has been shown to generally improve sleep.

Baby feeding- Ayurvedic concept

In ayurveda breast milk is called as nectar. Brest milk is sterile; it has got all the nutrients and antibodies what the child needs. Ayurveda believes that the benefits of the breast-feeding, has no parallel. Breast milk is rich in all the vital nutrients and provides the baby with requisite energy for the all round growth. It is a wholesome diet for the newborn, which is easy to digest, enhances immunity, and balances the doshas. Moreover the breast milk is available at the temperature most suited for the infant and is free from all possible sources of contamination.

Apart from the nutritional aspect the process of breast-feeding fosters a bond between the mother and the child, which acts as a reassuring factor for the baby and makes him feel safe in the new surrounding. Ignorance of the advantages of breast-feeding and the proper method often leads to discontinuation in most cases.

Basic Facts about Breast Feeding:
• The ability of the breasts to produce milk diminishes soon after childbirth, without the stimulation of breast-feeding.
• The immunity factors in breast milk can help the body fight off infections.
• Breast milk contains vitamins, minerals and enzymes, which aid the baby’s digestion.
• Breast and formula feeding can be used together.

Advantages of Breast-Feeding:
• It is the simplest way to feed the baby.
• Breast milk contains infection-fighting anti-bodies from the mother.
• Breast feeding increases the immunity of the baby.
• The amino acids in breast milk, the building blocks of proteins, are well balanced for the baby. These proteins best aid the baby’s intestinal tract.
• It’s strengthens the emotional bonding between the baby and mother.
According to ayurveda, in addition to love and affection for the baby the following factors help in breastfeeding:
• Breast feeding mother should avoid excessive exercise. She should be at rest and should take proper sleep.
• Fatigue – both physical and mental should be avoided.
• Mind should be happy. Anger and grief are the states of mind that might interfere with the process of lactation.

Diet to increase breast milk

There are no specific foods to eat that will stimulate production of breast milk, but there are things that can help with milk production. The best prescription for maximum milk production is effective and frequent breastfeeding or milk expression, plenty of fluids, adequate calories and rest.
Fluids
Drinking enough fluid helps. It doesn’t have to be milk; water or juice is fine. It is a good habit to drink a glass of water while your baby is nursing. Drinking sufficient fluids is important in replenishing lost fluids.
Caffeine, soda and other aerated drinks stimulates milk production, but these also stimulate your baby. They find their way into breast milk and large amounts can act on your baby as it does on you. Caffeine stays in baby’s system longer than in an adult’s, which will prolong its effect. Also, caffeine can make your baby irritable, and interfere with his sleep.
Barley Grass and Barley Water
Barley grass may be able to increase the fat content of mother’s milk, resulting in a creamier, more nutrient-rich and filling diet for baby. Barley water can also be prepared as a galactagogue. Simmer one cup of flakes or pearled barley in a quart of water for 2 hours. Add 2-3 teaspoons of fennel seeds and steep for 10 minutes, add water as needed.
Spirulina
Spirulina is another green food reputed to increase milk supply and increase the fat content of milk in some lactating mothers
Fennel Seed
Fennel helps to improve milk supply; the seeds are a stronger agent and have been used by women for centuries as a galactagogue. It is recommended that fennel be used only for a couple of weeks or one week on, one week off for longer periods. Paradoxically, a side effect of fennel use can be a depressed milk supply.
Oatmeal
Have a big bowl of oats each morning or snack on it in the afternoon, really helps.
Other foods that help to increase breast milk production are:
Brown Rice – contains B vitamins, selenium, iron, fiber and manganese.
Avocados – contains potassium, vitamin B6,
Beets – high in potassium
Carrots – high in vitamin C
Barley – high in phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamin B6.
Dulse – a red algae high in B vitamins, iron, and potassium.
Kombu – edible kelp rich in glutamic acid

Some mothers and lactation consultants believe that certain herbs can increase the production of breast milk. Some herbal suggestions include…
• Fenugreek
• Blessed Thistle
• Alfalfa
• Fennel
• Brewers Yeast
• Raspberry Leaf
These come in various forms, as tinctures, tablets and teas. Besides that, certain plants and foods like kheer of halim, methi, poppy seeds and dates, and medicinal products made up of shatavari, musali, jeevanti, etc. may help to improve the quality and quantity of breast milk.

Ayurveda Panchkarma Management for Bronchitis

Bronchitis is the inflammation of the air passages between the nose and the lungs. It may also include the trachea and the windpipe and also the larger air tubes of the lungs that bring in air from the trachea. The interior linings of the bronchial tubes swell thereby reducing their effective diameter. Due to this the amount of air passing through the trachea into the lungs is reduced and so does the amount of waste gas coming from the lungs. This triggers the production of thicker mucous which further blocks the air passages. Bronchitis can be acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is of short duration and is cured within two weeks while chronic bronchitis persists for much longer duration.

When chronic bronchitis proceeds breathing may become more difficult and you may feel tightness in your chest. Due to breathing difficulties less oxygen is inhaled into your body. This may cause your lips and body to turn blue and cause overall tiredness. In the advanced stages you will get chest pains and your feet and ankles may become swollen. Many tend to lose weight and have trouble sleeping. The damaged lungs may force the heart to work harder leading to its failure.

Many causes have been suggested for bronchitis like influenza virus A and B, bacteria like the Mycoplasma pneumoniae, lung irritants like fumes, dusts, chemical solvents, smoking. When a cough brings up large quantities of yellow, green or discolored mucus for more than three months of a year, then a case of bronchitis can be suspected. The main symptoms accompanying an upper respiratory tract infection may include: sore throat, chest congestion, soreness or burning sensation in the chest, fullness of the sinus, wheezing, breathlessness, slight fever, frequent cold or flu.

Ayurveda has two modes of treatment one is Shamana Chikitsa in which herbal medications are use to cure ailments arising due to vitiated doshas. But sometimes the doshas are vitiated beyond a limit giving rise to many kinds of endotoxins which gets accumulated in the body. To remove such toxins from the body Sodhana Chikitsa has to be adopted. Through five step of treatment it reaches to the root cause of the problem and uproots it. It is not only beneficial in treating any disease but also correcting the balance of tridosha in the body. Sodhana Chikista mainly consists of five different kinds of therapies and is more commonly known as Panchakarma.

Panchakarma meaning five actions has been given much importance in Charaka Samhita, an ancient authoritative ayurvedic text written by Acharya Charak. Panchakarma has been widely quoted in the text for treating various ailments. There are three main steps in Panchakarma. The initial step of Poorva Karma or preperatory methods includes paachan (digestion), snehan (internal and external oleation) and swedan (induced sweating). The main methods or Pradhan Karma include vamanam (induced vomiting), virechanam (induced purgation), basti (medicated enema), nasya (nasal elimination of toxins) and rakta moksha (detoxification of blood). Paschat karma or post therapeutic measures include sansarjan karma (specific diet pattern) and dhooma pana (inhalation of smoke containing medicinal herbs). Panchkarma is used to detoxify body and cleanse it of all poisons. Bronchitis can be managed through Vamana which involves eliminating the excess kapha or mucus present inside the body. Emetic substances include neem leaf, salty water, emetic nut, madhuka-yastimadhu-licorice, bimbi, clematis, triloba-devdaru-deodar, Cedrus deodara etc. Once the mucus has been cleared the patient will feel relieved.
